AltSchool has enrolled more than 100,000 students in a variety of programs, such as cybersecurity, business, engineering, and the creative economy. The edtech, which is now present in more than seven African nations, has reached a major milestone in its quest to grow its influence outside of the continent.

AltSchool, which participated in the SuperCharger Ventures accelerator program, has announced its entry into the European market. The announcement was made by the edtech startup on Monday, December 2, 2024, during the SuperCharger Demo Day. The edtech, which is now present in more than seven African nations, has reached a major milestone in its quest to grow its influence outside of the continent with its European expansion.

“We at AltSchool think that while ability is present everywhere, opportunity is not. Our goal is to make it easy for people to change their lives while also assisting companies in assembling the teams they require to develop and expand. We can bring this idea to a region that is dealing with its own particular labour difficulties by expanding to Europe’, CEO Adewale Yusuf told Techpoint Africa.

One of the biggest edtech-focused accelerator programs in the world, the accelerator program gives the business access to resources, mentorship, and a network of partners, all of which it intends to use to boost growth on the continent. With the UK placing third in terms of registered users, behind only Nigeria and Kenya, the firm has been gradually gaining popularity throughout Europe.

Since its founding, AltSchool has enrolled more than 100,000 students in a variety of programs, such as cybersecurity, business, engineering, and the creative economy. To bolster its revenue streams, it is also investigating business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-business-to-consumer (B2B2C) models.

AltSchool’s European operations will take a hybrid approach, using Malta as a basis for in-person interactions, in contrast to its largely online model in Africa. Data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cloud engineering will be the main topics of the first programs. One of its objectives upon launch in 2021 was to provide its users with certifications in addition to abilities. As a result, it has worked to get accreditations, and in February 2024, the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges, and Universities (ASIC) granted it full accreditation.

Yusuf claims that AltSchool is already in discussions with the Maltese Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation and intends to follow suit in Malta. Although it hasn’t usually guaranteed employment to its graduates, Yusuf says that its career team is still working on projects to assist students in finding employment once the school is over.
