Durban Fashion Fair is adorned by designers.

At the Durban Fashion Fair in South Africa, Mateus Erastus, the inventor of MN Creations, and Leone Shimuketa, the mastermind behind Sirenga, are displaying Namibian fashion.

The designers were selected as a result of a strategic alliance between Durban Fashion Fair and MTC Windhoek Fashion Week. Strengthening both countries’ fashion industry and promoting cross-cultural links are the goals of the partnership.

This year’s fashion fair opened on Wednesday and runs until September 21.

The two designers’ work is generating a lot of talk in the fashion business.

Shimuketa is well known for her daring and avant-garde designs, which consistently defy accepted notions of fashion and make her a significant player in Namibia’s fashion industry. Her bold aesthetic celebrates individuality, pushes limits, and showcases Namibia’s potential for ground-breaking fashion designs.

Erastus is known for producing sophisticated collections that exemplify exquisite craftsmanship and beauty. His label features elegant and timeless designs. He expressed his gratitude and delight for the platform and opportunity provided by fashion week in an interview with VIBEZ!.

“Vuncha, the name of my collection,  which means renew. I have a collection of 15 looks for both men and women,” he declared. According to him, this is a unique endeavour from their company and has great visibility potential.

Designers can use the fair as a platform to market their collections, increase their global reach, and look for retail opportunities outside of Namibia.

This cross-border cooperation highlights the growing influence of Namibian fashion on the international scene and the value of cultural interchange in raising the sector’s profile.

The MTC Windhoek Fashion Week director, Luis Munana, expressed his joy at the development.

Having Namibian designers take front stage at the expo makes us very proud. Our designers may reach a global audience of consumers, industry professionals, and fashion aficionados by using our global platform. These collaborations are crucial to the expansion of Namibia’s fashion sector and to providing opportunities for our gifted creatives, he said.

After the event at Batho Fashion Week in Botswana, the fashion week has now enabled an international interchange for the second time.

According to him, these exchanges are beneficial for exposing foreign designers to Namibian designers as well as for developing their abilities and ingenuity and breaking into new markets.

The fashion week’s most recent partnership with Durban Fashion Fair, which upholds the promotion of regional talent, enhances Namibian designers’ standing on the international fashion scene.
