Hyundai EXTER travels to South Africa, propelling Indian innovation abroad

Exporting the Hyundai EXTER, which is only made in India, to South Africa is a huge accomplishment for Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL). With this launch, HMIL is commemorating 20 years of exporting to South Africa, having started in 2004.

The Hyundai EXTER joins the ranks of well-known models including the GRAND i10 NIOS, AURA, i20, i20 N Line, VENUE, VENUE N Line, and ALCAZAR as the eighth HMIL vehicle to be exported to the region.

Hyundai’s function head for corporate planning, Jae Wan Ryu, of HMIL, highlighted the milestone of 20 years of exports while underlining the significance of South Africa as a major export market. He was optimistic that the EXTER could achieve similar success in India, where it sold over a million units in less than a year.

HMIL’s global footprint has entered a new chapter with the shipment of the Hyundai EXTER, with the first batch of 996 units going to South Africa. Hy-CNG (Dual Cylinder CNG) and Knight Edition versions were added to the EXTER roster in 2024, highlighting the brand’s expanding popularity in both the Indian and global markets.
